How to Choose a Wooden Ring — A Guide to Wood Types
A wooden ring is one of those pieces of jewelry you choose for its story, not just its looks. Before deciding, it helps to know a few basics about wood types, sizing and care.
Wood types
- Walnut — dark brown with a strong grain pattern, one of the most popular choices for rings.
- Oak — lighter, extremely strong wood with a long tradition of use.
- Olive — light in color with striking dark veins, dense and durable.
- Maple — nearly white, smooth wood, well suited to minimalist designs.
Every piece of wood has its own grain pattern, so even two rings made from the same wood type are always at least a little different — which is the whole point of a unique wooden product.
Sizing
Unlike metal rings, wooden rings can't be stretched or resized afterward, so it's important to measure your correct ring size before ordering. We recommend measuring your finger with a string or an existing ring that fits well.
Combining with other materials
Many wooden rings are made in combination with steel, silver or stone, adding contrast and durability at the edge of the ring.
Care
For a long-lasting wooden ring, treat it regularly with natural oil and avoid prolonged contact with water. More in our wooden jewelry care guide.
